demo: Use variable name instead of type in malloc() calls

HACKING points to the kernel coding style for reference.

The kernel coding style strongly suggests that malloc calls should be invoked
with sizeof(*variable_name) instead of sizeof(variable_type).

Follow this guideline for the demo driver.
